The Leadership of the Tekpan Anyobank, (Let’s Unite Women’s Association), a Non-Governmental Organization has paid a courtesy call on the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Tatale/Sanguli to congratulate him on his appointment into the high office.

The group’s call led by Mr. Kuwella Libalgma Simon on Hon. Thomas Mbomba was also to afford the group the opportunity to discuss with the DCE issues bordering on security, water supply, socio economic, governance, Human Right, Education etc.

One of the primary needs of the people as presented by the group was the lack of adequate police posts in the Tatale/Sanguli district. The group therefore appealed to the Honorable Assembly chief to use his office to lobby for additional police posts in affected areas. This is aimed at helping to minimize the attack on innocent residents by armed robbers in the area.

Leader of the group, Mr. Kuwella Libalgma also made a passionate appeal to government through Hon. Thomas Mbomba to compensate the families of the four men, who lost their lives in the armed robbery attack that rocked the district in May, 2017. The men, he added died in the heat of an armed robbery attack while serving as volunteers fighting alongside the police.

It would be recalled that the chiefs and elders at a press conference expressed their disappointment and disgust at the way police in the district handled the armed robbery incident on 21st May, 2017 and appealed to the government, religious groups and all benevolent individuals to come the aid of the families of the deceased.

Another area of concern is that of poor water supply.  The group thus requested for the provision of water to the 47 affected communities since the effects of the situation on women and children is enormous.

Tekpan Anyobank also bemoaned the lack of market centers for their daily trading activities whiles others vigorously lamented that they were being cheated by buyers out of their farming businesses in times of measuring their produce. The women therefore solicited the government which they say, prides itself as an agriculture-friendly government, to help them out with markets for their farm produce.

On the other hand, the Tekpan Anyobank group made a passionate plea to Hon Thomas Mbomba to help curb the nagging issue of child or forced marriages which rampant nature has drastically increased the rate of school dropouts in the district. They regretted that the canker creates an avenue for the rights of women to be abused by their male counterparts by formulating district by-laws. The concerned women added that, the Hon should promote girl child education to help raise women to take up positions in governance and decision making.

Other concerns of the group included the provision of electricity supply to deprived communities in the Tekpan Anyobank district and the need to include women in all levels of the decision making process as no woman is serving in the Tekpan Anyobank district assembly.

District Chief Executive’s Response

The Honorable DCE, Thomas Mbomba lauded the women for their contribution towards ensuring peace and unity during the 2016 general election which ended smoothly without any disturbances for the first time in the history of the Tatale-Sanguli district.

He assured them of government’s readiness to support women in the Tatale- Sanguli district and the Northern Region and Ghana as a whole in areas such as Agriculture, Trade, and Vocational Skills training. He further promised to put up extra efforts in order to realize all that the Tekpan Anyobank group laid before him in order to make living better for all in the district.
