Municipal Chief Executive of the Yilo Krobo Krobo Municipality has raised concerns about sanitation challenges currently plaguing the country of which the Yilo Krobo Municipality is no exception. This, the MCE, Hon Ebenezer Tetteh Kupualor contends is an alarming development that needs strong war to curb it.
The MCE made the observation when he inaugurated an ultra-modern ten-seater public toilet facility for the people of Ogome-Abokobi near Somanya.
The facility which is furnished with tiles and water flowing twenty-four hours, according to the assembly chief is also disability-friendly which meets society’s standards.
Several toilet facilities are expected to be dotted across the country after the opening of a tender by the Ministry Of Special Initiatives to build over one thousand toilet facilities in several parts of the country including the Yilo Krobo Municipality.
The MCE was convinced that the step was necessary due to the likely effects the absence of such basic infrastructure will have on the people as many engaged in open defecation on refuse dumps, beaches and other unauthorized places.
He also underscored the assembly’s intervention to set up a toilet facility arises out of its appreciation of the potential of the threat associated with the absence of places of convenience in communities. Hon Kupualor further assured the people of the municipality of good sanitation in the municipality, adding that measures were being put in place to deal with all the challenges that have attributable to the problem.
The assembly chief also urged the people of Ogome- Abokobi to properly maintain the facility in order to ensure proper maintenance to prolong its life span.
The queen mother of Abokobi, Manye Naki Obufio thanked the MCE for a wonderful work done and assured him that they will adhere to his call to make ensure the development of their communities.
She however pleaded with the MCE to give them a refuse container close to the newly constructed facility.
